In July 2021, the makers have erected a futuristic set at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad where a significant portion of filming is expected to take place. A few days later, Mahindra responded that their company Mahindra & Mahindra would assist the production team from their Mahindra Research Valley campus at Chennai. In March 2022, Ashwin requested businesman Anand Mahindra to provide technical support to the build such type of vehicles. While they can be recreated using computer-generated imagery (CGI), Ashwin wanted them to feel "authentic and genuine," therefore opted to build these vehicles from scratch with a dedicated team of engineers.

It is intended to mark 50 years since the establishment of their studio. In the 66th National Film Awards 2019, the film won accolades including the Best Feature Film in Telugu.In February 2020, Hyderabad-based Vyjayanthi Movies, one of the largest production houses in Telugu cinema, announced that their next film production would be helmed by director Nag Ashwin, starring Prabhas. Nag Ashwin received the Filmfare Award for Best Director at the 66th Filmfare Awards South for Mahanati, the biographical film of Tollywood’s great actress, Saavitri. It emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film for a debut actor, surpassing the record of Chirutha. Uppena released theatrically on 12th February 2021 and minted well at the box office.
The film features debutants Panja Vaisshnav Tej and Krithi Shetty as the lead pair, and Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi in a vital role.
